Kelpies Prize 2023 Results

Well, I didn’t win. It’s obviously sooo disappointing when this happens, and I spent the day after the awards ceremony feeling quite deflated, and ate more Mint Aero than I care to divulge.

However, I can now truly say that I’m so happy and proud simply to have been shortlisted. It feels like a massive achievement in itself. The feedback I received on The Dishlandtown Mouse from the editors at Floris Books has given me a much-needed boost of confidence, and it was a thrill to hear Janis Mackay read our work. Guest presenter Elle McNicol’s wise words on disappointment and resilience will stay with me.

Huge congratulations to winner Rebekah Fieschi, and also to my fellow shortlisted writers Leanne Dymond, Bruna De Luca and Jonathan Stephens. I can’t wait to read your work in the future and am sending luck and solidarity to you all.
